Description

– Interactive Prevent Safeguarding

Detailed Description

The Centre for Child Protection at the University is excited to offer ‘Young Zak the Gamer’ as standalone training for prevent safeguarding. Follow ‘Young Zak’s’ story through a series of interactive vlogs and consider the risks he faces as he becomes more involved in online gaming. Each chapter contains an interactive vlog, additional resources, and a worksheet or suggested activity. This resource is aimed at children aged 9-13 in upper Key Stage 2 and early Key Stage 3.

The 90-minute interactive online twilight training session will cover online safety, what to share, safety planning, recognising grooming, seeking support, and digital health planning. You will be fully equipped to run ‘Young Zak’ sessions with your colleagues, parents, and in the classroom. As a Young Zak champion, you will be able to share resources and oversee your colleagues' use of Young Zak in their lessons.

•    Raise awareness amongst professionals and young people of the processes of grooming for radicalisation.
•    Encourage discussion and reflection on the use and abuse of different social media platforms for the purposes of radicalisation.
•    Enable young people to identify and discuss factors/indicators of radicalisation in their peers.
•    Encourage self-reflection and build digital resilience with safety planning tools.
•    Facilitate understanding regarding where and to whom young people should report their concerns on radicalisation and internet safety.
Your licence for Young Zak is valid for 12 months from the date of the training and can then be renewed.
