Course Description

The Centre for Child Protection at the University is excited to offer ‘Young Zak the Gamer’ as standalone training for prevent safeguarding. Follow ‘Young Zak’s’ story through a series of interactive vlogs and consider the risks he faces as he becomes more involved in online gaming. Each chapter contains an interactive vlog, additional resources, and a worksheet or suggested activity. This resource is aimed at children aged 9-13 in upper Key Stage 2 and early Key Stage 3.

The 90-minute interactive online training session will cover online safety, what to share, safety planning, recognising grooming, seeking support, and digital health planning. You will be fully equipped to run ‘Young Zak’ sessions with your colleagues, parents, and in the classroom. As a Young Zak champion, you will be able to share resources and oversee your colleagues' use of Young Zak in their lessons.

•    Raise awareness of the grooming processes used in online and offline radicalisation.

•    Explore how social media platforms can be used and misused in this context.

•    Support children in identifying early signs of radicalisation among peers.

•    Promote resilience through reflection and structured safety planning.

•    Help children understand when and how to report concerns about radicalisation and internet safety.

Your licence for Young Zak is valid for 12 months from the date of the training and can then be renewed.  Please read terms and conditions before booking on the training.
