Intensive In-house Advocacy Weekend 15-17 July 2022
Open to Kent Law School Students only (current stage 1 or 2)

 

Detailed Description

We have 40 places to offer Kent Law School students to undertake an intensive residential Advocacy Course on campus.

The fee includes 2 nights bed and breakfast accommodation in Keynes College, lunch, dinner, evening refreshments and refreshments throughout the day.

PLEASE NOTE ONCE PAID THE FEE IS NON RETURNABLE - THOUGH YOU MAY FIND AN ALTERNATE STUDENT TO TAKE YOUR PLACE

FRIDAY
6.00 pm Welcome. Outline of the course. Warm up exercise

7.00pm Dinner

8.00pm PLENARY SESSION – What is advocacy? How is it different from debating? Core skills including a demonstration from trainers and a group exercise

9.30pm Free time in bar

9.00am PLENARY SESSION: BEING IN CONTROL OF YOUR CASE. CASE ANALYSIS, PREPARATION AND PLANNING

10.00am GROUP SESSIONS – Case analysis of trial exercise

11.00am COFFEE

11.15am PLENARY SESSION – making an impact and structuring a submission

12.00pm GROUP SESSIONS – making an application

1.00pm LUNCH

2.00pm PLENARY SESSION – Feedback on morning session on applications. Demonstration of an application

2.30pm GROUP SESSION - second attempt at making an application

3.30pm PLENARY – Advocacy in negotiation. How to achieve success.

4.05pm TEA

4.20pm GROUP SESSIONS – Negotiation exercise

6.30pm PLENARY – Horrible judges, difficult opponents and tricky clients.

7.15pm DINNER

8.30pm DRINKS AND RELAX

9.15am PLENARY – Appellate advocacy, including how to handle questions

10.00am GROUP SESSIONS – Appellate advocacy. (Coffee 10.55-11.15pm)

3.45pm PLENARY. Feedback and closing comments.
